Founded in 1824 in Charleston, the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is home to the oldest medical school in the South. We're also the state's only integrated academic health sciences center, serving South Carolina through education, research, and patient care. Our university hospitals, research facilities, clinics, and patient care sites serve communities across the state.
Each year, MUSC educates and trains more than 3,000 students and 850 residents and fellows in six colleges: Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.
In 2021, MUSC brought in more than $328 million in biomedical research funds, continuing to lead the state in obtaining this funding.
As the clinical health system of MUSC, MUSC Health is dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient care while training generations of compassionate, dedicated health care providers to serve the people of South Carolina and beyond.
Our values – collaboration, compassion, innovation, integrity, and respect – are the heart of what we do. Each day, our employees demonstrate these values as they help to fulfill MUSC's vision statement: Leading Health Innovation for the Lives We Touch.
In 2022, for the eighth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report named MUSC Health the No. 1 hospital in South Carolina.
Achieving Magnet designation attracts top nursing talent that supports better patient outcomes and professional growth.
MUSC is honored to be named to Forbes' Best-in-State Employers List.
MUSC is proud to be recognized as a 2022 Diversity Champion and recipient of Insight Into Diversity's Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for six years in a row.
