Job Summary/Purpose: The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is an ultrasound professional that is qualified by professional credentialing, academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs abdominal, OB/GYN and small parts (thyroid, scrotal, breast) diagnostic ultrasound imaging under the supervision of the radiologist. Also performs vascular ultrasound studies for the diagnosis of Deep Vein Thrombosis. In addition may be required to provide back up coverage for other outreach sites.
Required Minimum Training and Education: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Specialties preferred are abdominal, OB/GYN and Breast. Must be self motivated with the ability to work independently and efficiently. Must have the ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required. Must have at least two years of independent work experience.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Registry by The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Preferred Specialties ; Breast, OB/GYN, and Abdomen. Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education requirements for Specialty (ies) as appropriate. Current BLS certification.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
