Job Summary/Purpose:  The Medical Assistant assist in the provision of patient care by performing assigned tasks according to policy.  Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.  Identify abnormal assessments of findings, communicating findings to physician and document assessment findings in the appropriate format.  Document all activities according to defined guidelines in a timely manner by including thorough and complete information and properly identifying self on all patient records.  Assist in the education process for the patient.  Obtain referral appointments, prior authorizations, and medicine for patients as needed.  Demonstrate performance consistent with the mission and goals of the practice and organization; remain flexible to changing systems; and treats staff, physicians, patients, and visitors with consideration and respect.

Required Minimum Training and Education: Certified Medical Assistants who have graduated with one year of accredited schooling and have taken and passed the Medical Assistance Certification exam. One year experience preferred in a healthcare setting.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Medical Assistant Certificate from an accredited school. BLS Mandatory.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:  

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.  Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.  Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs.   Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
