Job Description Summary
The Administrator, Performance Excellence reports to the Chief Administrative Officer, MUSC Health and is responsible for designing, advancing, and sustaining the clinical enterprise performance management system, called performance excellence. The leader is expected to act as a strategist, integrator, and operator—translating high-level strategy into measurable outcomes, enabling disciplined execution, and cultivating a high-performance culture across the MUSC clinical enterprise.Entity

Job Description
Core Responsibilities
System Oversight of Goal Development & Strategic Alignment – 20%
Responsibilities:
· Lead enterprise goal development processes, ensuring Key Strategic Objectives (KSOs) cascade across the system.
· Standardize goal setting to support clarity, accountability, and strategic alignment.
Success Criteria:
· Annual KSO and Goal development cycle completed on time and adopted by enterprise leadership and the Board.
· Demonstrated alignment of enterprise, market, and departmental goals.
· Standardized goal-setting methodology consistently applied systemwide.
Performance Measurement, Benchmarking & Reporting – 20%
Responsibilities:
· Establish and maintain system wide scorecards and reporting frameworks.
· Drive comparative benchmarking with national peers and industry standards.
· Ensure transparent reporting and forecasting processes that inform leaders and the Board.
Success Criteria:
· Scorecards published regularly with actionable insights.
· Benchmarking actively informs strategy and performance priorities.
· Forecasts consistently identify variance and support proactive interventions.
Leadership Accountability & Governance – 20%
Responsibilities
· Lead system wide performance governance structures that ensure executive and senior leader accountability (PEOC’s, PEC’s, MOFI etc.)
· Facilitate structured accountability forums, ensuring disciplined follow-through on enterprise priorities.
· Drive accountability for progress against goals, cascading accountability through the organization in partnership with the CAO and health system executive leadership council.
Success Criteria:
· Leadership accountability processes embedded across the system.
· Executives consistently held accountable for progress toward goals.
· Standard work adopted across all markets and service lines.
Performance Transformation & Continuous Improvement – 10%
Responsibilities:
· Partner with the System COO & CQO to sponsor enterprise transformation initiatives that deliver measurable operational, clinical, and financial impact.
· Identify and prioritize system opportunities for efficiency, innovation, and improvement.
· Ensure alignment with MUSC’s growth and value-based transformation agenda.
Success Criteria:
· Transformation initiatives delivered with measurable ROI.
· Best practices standardized and scaled across the system.
· Performance excellence is recognized as a driver of system impact.
Performance & Alignment Forums & Retreats - 10%
Responsibilities:
· Lead quarterly forums bringing together clinical enterprise leadership.
· Provide a platform for best practice sharing, transparency, and open dialogue on improvement opportunities.
· Incorporate industry insights, market updates, and recognition of market/service line performance.
· Success Criteria:
· Forums executed quarterly with strong senior leader participation.
· Documented evidence of alignment, transparency, and shared learning.
· Leaders recognize forums as a premier venue for collaboration and recognition.
External Recognition & Rankings – 10%
Responsibilities:
· Direct system strategies to improve standing in national rankings and recognition programs (e.g., U.S. News, Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS Stars).
· Align internal performance improvement with external measures.
· Strengthen MUSC’s reputation for excellence and impact nationally.
Success Criteria:
· Documented improvement in targeted rankings.
· Annual gap analyses addressed through enterprise priorities.
· Increased recognition of MUSC Health among national peers.
Leadership of the Performance Excellence Team – 5%
Responsibilities:
· Lead, mentor, and develop a team of senior performance leaders and managers.
· Foster collaboration across performance alignment, transformation, and rankings workstreams.
· Model MUSC values and cultivate a high-performance team culture.
· Success Criteria:
· Team engagement and retention targets achieved.
· Cross-functional collaboration evident across workstreams.
· Direct reports recognized as effective leaders in their domains.
Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
Responsibilities:
· Carry out additional responsibilities as delegated by the Chief Administrative Officer or enterprise leadership.
Success Criteria:
· Demonstrated agility and responsiveness in addressing emerging system needs.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, and 10 years of progressive experience including 8 years in management/leadership roles.
