The Clinical/Medical Laboratory Assistant I performs a variety of tasks related to the pre-analytical processing of biological specimens for testing performed in the clinical laboratory. This role is responsible for data entry of client demographic information, processing test orders and order review, reconciling specimen/order problems, and assisting with facilitating send out testing. This position ensures proper patient registration, paper requisition filing, supply management support, answering phones, proper labeling of samples and sample distribution and other duties as assigned.
Job Description
Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Performs quality control and assurance procedures. Records lab results in specified system. Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Training and Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required. Additional requirements: A minimum of one year of health care setting experience; or certified as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant; or certified as a phlebotomist; or student enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science program in a science related major; or a Bachelor of Science degree; or enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science program or Medical Laboratory Technician program. Certification as a Clinical Lab Assistant or certified as a medical assistant or certified as a phlebotomist or one year work experience in a health care setting. Typing Speed of 45 cwpm. Demonstrated customer service work experience required.
