Job Description Summary
The Coder 2 is a mid-level coding professional who independently manages coding assignments for a diverse range of medical records, including inpatient and outpatient services. The Coder II is expected to interpret complex medical documentation, assign accurate codes for procedures and diagnoses, and ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations. Additionally, this role involves working with CDI, physicians and other healthcare provider and participating in departmental training initiatives to foster knowledge transfer and maintain high coding standards.Entity

Job Description
The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record. Classification systems include ICD-10 and CPT edition, and all coding is in accordance with official coding guidelines from the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, and the American Health Information Management Association. All work is carried out in accordance with the Health Information Management Department and MUSC approved policies and procedures.Additional Job Description
