Job Description/Summary:

The Echovascular Sonographer II performs echo vascular studies as required, including Echocardiograms, Cardia Doppler studies, Color flow mapping, TEE studies, Carotid Duplex studies, Arterial extremity testing, Benous extremity studies and RAA's. Diligently prepares appropriate paperwork for echo vascular studies. Learns the department/hospital routines in the various Hospitals served. Assists with Quality Assurance on an ongoing basis. Maintains rapport with physicians and other hospital staff. Ensures that care is delivered to assigned patients in accordance with medical orders and nursing standards and is documented in clinical records and on plans of care. Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs echo and vascular studies as required, including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms, contrast echocardiography, carotid duplex studies, upper/lower extremity arterial testing, upper/lower extremity venous studies, some abdominal vascular studies.
  • Maintains an excellent understanding of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy as well as pathology.
  • Diligently prepares appropriate reports for echo and vascular studies.
  • Learns the department/hospital routines in the various hospitals served.
  • Assists with quality assurance on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains rapport with physicians and other hospital staff.
  • Participates in on-call, weekend, and holiday schedules.
  • Ensures that appropriate care is delivered to patients in accordance with medical orders and is documented in clinical records.
  • Participates in student education programs.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations:

  • Credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
    • ARDMS: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RCDS) / Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
    • CCI: Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) / Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Minimum Experience and Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited formal program in echo/vascular ultrasound and/or on-the-job training in echo/vascular ultrasound.
  • Additional relevant courses and/or degrees preferred.
  • 1 year experience

(Infrequent) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
