The primary function of this position is to prepare tissue specimens for review by the pathologist and to assist the pathologist as needed. Insures accurate and reliable results by adhering to a strict quality control program.    Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department’s policies and procedures.  Maintains records and statistical data according to regulative requirements.  Teaches new employees and students' policies and procedures. Assists in covering other shifts when necessary.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education:  Associate Degree in Histotechnology or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience to equal 2 years.  Must meet qualification requirements for testing personnel set forth in Title 42, Sec. 493.1489, CLIA.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:  ASCP HT or equivalent certification required. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
