Job Description Summary

Manages one or more functional areas of a department. Manages two or more professional and support staff including subordinate supervisors. Typically has hire, fire, or promotion authority. Evaluates and makes improvements to department processes while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations. More discretion and greater financial authority than other lower management levels. Manages initiatives, strategic priorities and programs which have an impact on the organization. Works independently and in collaboration with leadership to support the budget process and meeting key operational goals. Plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates activities and functions of the department/functional business area based employee/organizational goals. Job Description

Manages one or more functional areas of a department. Manages two or more professional and support staff including subordinate supervisors. Typically has hire, fire, or promotion authority. Evaluates and makes improvements to department processes while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations. Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in a related field and completion of a master’s degree in a relevant field within three years of hire in the role. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. Seven (7) years of work experience in a laboratory setting with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role.

Provides management and oversight of Histopathology to ensure quality testing, fiscal responsibility, and volume-based staffing targets are met.

Job Responsibility Weight 50.0%
•Ensures services are delivered using established standards of care for laboratory practice.
•Ensures care team members understand how their role contributes to the laboratory's and organization's goals.
•Performs annual evaluations, mid years and planning stages for care team members by established deadlines
•Leads (delegates) daily laboratory huddles
•Routinely rounds on laboratory care team members
•Conducts staff meetings as necessary
•Ensure accessibility to care team members
•Actively managers staffing using rounding and workload volume reports
•Manages supplies and FTE expense
•Supports an environment of continuous process improvement
•Ensures laboratory resulting errors are within limits supporting quality patient care
•Actively participates on Pathology and Laboratory ICCE Operations Committee
•Actively participates in Pathology and Laboratory ICCE Managers' meeting
Ensures Histopathology Department adheres to quality, safety, regulatory, certification, and accreditation standards

•Leads and supports care team members participation on IMPROVE projects
•Collaborates with Medical Director to identify and implement meaningful performance indicators to access testing services across pre-analytic, analytic, analytic and post-analytic testing processes.
•Actively participates in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine ICCE Quality Committee and Clinical Lab Advisory Committee
•Ensures care team members are knowledgeable of applicable standards and demonstrate consistent performance adhering to standards.
•Ensures core competencies are uploaded and managed using MediaLab.
•Ensure care team members perform critical task competencies as required to meet accrediting agencies' guidelines.
•Ensures care team members' personnel files are uploaded and current as required by accrediting agencies, including diplomas and updated licenses.
•Ensures EOC & safety rounds are conducted weekly and documented appropriately.
•Ensures laboratories meet accrediting agencies' safety guidelines
•Successfully leads an passes CAP self-inspections/biannual inspection with minimal deficiencies, and develops corrective actions for deficiencies noted during inspection.
•Ensures all policies and procedures are uploaded and maintained in MediaLab
•Ensures all regulatory checklists are uploaded into MediaLab and are responded to appropriately within defined deadlines
Ensures care team members receive continued education and professional growth in addition to ensuring the laboratory settings is conducive to teaching health care practitioners

•Ensures care team members receive continued education and professional growth, in addition to ensuring the laboratory setting is conducive to teaching health care practitioners
•Collaborates with Pathology and Laboratory Medicine ICCE Educator to ensure care team members receive support to identify both internal and external educational resources and programs to support professional growth.
•Facilitates service-based orientation and continuing education needs of team.
•Ensure employee performance is consistent and congruent with established criteria for each position and/or level of advancement
•Mentors care team members to support Career Ladder advancement
•Ensures positive experiences for students, residents and health care practitioners.
•Completes ongoing self-education and professional growth in both clinical and leadership practice.

Additional Job Description

Education: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 7 years progressive work experience and 2 years management experience State licensure and/or professional certification requirement/s dependent on position. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
