The division currently includes MUSC Health – Florence Medical Center, and MUSC Health – Marion Medical Center. MUSC Health – Black River Medical Center, a brand new, 25-bed facility is expected to join the division in 2023.
About the Opportunity:
Lead the development of policies and procedures for the Hospitalist Program
Provide administrative leadership for the Hospitalist program with a focus on meeting performance metrics and standards
Partner with divisional Chief Medical Officer to reach quality goals by ensuring active engagement and participation by hospitalist providers in quality and strategy initiatives, including but not limited to improvements in patients’ length of stay
Play leading role in the design and implementation of staffing models and innovative care delivery models, including telehealth
Participate in system-wide initiatives with regard to the admit/transfer center, with the shared goal of improvement in patient disposition and transfer timing both into and out of Florence
Serve as a liaison between the Medical and Nursing staff to assure timely communications, adherence to standards and policies, and the promotion of collegial relationships; assist with relationship building, fostering positive interactions, and problem resolution
Participate in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental performance improvement activities, and peer review as requested
Maintain ongoing communication with administration and staff to provide clinical expertise and support when needed or requested
Review and advise on proper coding for professional services provided by Hospitalists, participate in audits and maintain compliance with sound fiscal practices
Work collaboratively with hospital system’s recruiters and practice managers to source and on-board Hospitalist physicians and APPs
Participate in individual hospital general medical staff meetings and committees, and hold monthly meetings with group and hospital leadership
Schedule and direct monthly hospital meetings with executive team members to review overall program performance and areas of opportunity to ensure alignment with divisional goals and initiatives
Monitor and amend daily staffing plans based on real-time volume fluctuations with attention to flexing staffing models to patient volumes
In addition to administrative duties, Medical Director will also be responsible for clinical commitment to include treating hospitalized patients from admission through discharge, conducting history and physical assessments, strategizing to improve and/or manage patient health, and attempting to reduce their length of stay through safe medical practices and recommended treatment plans
Physician will work as part of a team with physicians and APPs
