Job Description

As a Licensed Practical Nurse at Columbia Heart Lexington, you will play an essential role in creating a positive and compassionate experience for every patient.

Your responsibilities will include:
-Providing patient- and family-centered care while serving as a trusted partner and resource.
-Supporting patients and families as they manage their healthcare needs while respecting their culture, values, health goals, and treatment preferences.
-Applying critical thinking and sound clinical judgment to support timely and appropriate patient care.
-Recognizing and reporting changes in a patient’s condition to the appropriate clinical provider.
-Assisting physicians and other medical professionals with patient preparation, examinations, treatments, and procedures.
-Interviewing and screening patients to collect personal information, medical history, symptoms, and chief complaints.
-Obtaining and documenting vital signs and other required clinical information.
-Performing telephone and in-person patient screenings.
-Accurately documenting patient care, clinical findings, and relevant information in the medical record.
-Reviewing patient concerns with the appropriate provider when treatment guidance, medication instructions, or changes to the plan of care may be required.
-Responding to and prioritizing patient telephone calls regarding symptoms, medications, medical conditions, and other clinical concerns, as assigned.
-Preparing, cleaning, and stocking examination rooms and assigned clinical areas.
-Maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for patients and team members.
-Performing additional duties within the Licensed Practical Nurse’s authorized scope of practice, as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Education and Experiences:

•Graduation from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
•One year of LPN experience preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Ability to perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands.  Ability to perform firm grasping with fingers and hands.  Ability to reach overhead.  Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders.  Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination.  Ability to reach in all directions.  Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force.  Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.  Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.  Ability to match or discriminate between colors.  Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.  Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.  Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.  Ability to work rotating shifts.  Ability to work overtime as required.  Ability to work in a latex safe environment.  Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.  * *Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function.  * *Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
