Job Summary/Purpose:
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Division of Forensics is seeking a Social Worker or LPC to provide direct review of case management of persons in a clinic/forensic setting. Duties include providing a wide variety of direct social worker services that include review of complex caseload of patients/clients as part of forensic case assessments. This will include psychosocial assessment, review of active treatment and previous discharge planning, case management, and related documentation in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary forensic/and or treatment team.
The primary role for this position is providing services on a wide variety of court ordered forensic evaluations. The responsibilities for the position include obtaining psychosocial information, review and summarizing all pertinent legal and medical records, and shared report writing. The SW also serves as a second examiner on court ordered evaluations under the supervision of the forensic physician or forensic psychologist. SW may also conduct interviews and psychological testing needed to complete the forensic case evaluation by the forensic expert on the case. Good writing skills are required.
Required Minimum Training and Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited program. Three years professional social work experience, one of which must have included supervisory or administrative experience. Hospital experience in the area of Psychiatry is preferred. Experience in forensic case evaluations is optional. The applicant must demonstrate good communications skills and report writing.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensed to practice in South Carolina. Licensed in South Carolina. LISW-CP licensure/status or LPC is required.
Degree of Supervision: Limited supervision but functions as part of the forensic assessment team; includes supervision by a clinical director (MD or PhD).
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary job tasks in this position are to provide services needed to complete court ordered forensic evaluations.
Serves as a member of the forensic assessment team in the diagnostic evaluation of clients and the identification of needed treatment objectives.
May provide court ordered forensic individual and group therapy to adult and adolescent under supervision of forensic physician or forensic psychologist.
The incumbent performs highly complex forensic work under professional supervision.
Provides services to both an adult and child patient population.
Reviews histories of case management, interagency coordination and treatment programs of defendants.
Performs psychometric evaluations to assist in the diagnosis of depression and anxiety disorders, personality disorders and psychopathology.
Performs psychological tests tailored for individual forensic case assessment.
Obtain collateral information by interviews of client, family, providers and other pertinent informants to assess the patient's level of functioning, strengths and deficits, and emotional status.
Assess accuracy and completion of the case files.
Report writing for documents that are submitted to the courts.
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
