Job Description Summary

The Sleep Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting patients with sleep-related issues, providing education, resources, and personalized plans to improve sleep quality. This position involves the support of patients under the current care of the sleep medicine providers. A normal day would be supporting the sleep provider in clinic or providing care via telemedicine. Clinic tasks include intaking of patients, preparing rooms for patients, gathering of needed information for clinic visits and possible surgery, coordinating services during clinic visits, and much more! As a clinical care team member, you will become a highly knowledgeable resource in Sleep Medicine to support our patients in clinic and throughout their treatment plan. Coordinate all clinical care within all clinics to maximize safety, patient and co-worker satisfaction and quality outcomes.

Details: Under general supervision, the Sleep RN coordinator within the Sleep Clinic provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients and families at the expert level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process. Will work with a specific multidisciplinary disease team to deliver quality and safety of care through the continuum of care from the patient’s first clinic visit, and throughout the continuation of their care while at MUSC as needed. Job duties include utilizing the nursing process (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation & Evaluation) in coordinating care for patients in the clinic setting. This includes order entry, patient message and phone call management, patient education, care planning, ensuring patient appointments are made, anticipating patient needs, and working closely with the RN Navigator between systems, locations, and types of therapy offered. They will also work closely with the other clinical team members (Physicians, APPs, CMAs, LPNs, RNs, Pharmacists, etc.) and coordinate care appropriately during clinic.

Minimum Training and Education: A Bachelor's degree in nursing and three years experience as a registered nurse. Transplant nursing experience preferred. An ability to establish cooperative working relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff and other health care disciplines.  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals.  Highly developed analytic skills, interpersonal skills and organization skills.  Must have emotional/mental ability to perform effectively and efficiently under pressure and during stressful or emergency situations.  Must maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and confidentiality. 

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Current South Carolina licensure or compact state required.  Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) is preferred.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
