Job Description Summary

The Worker’s Compensation Nurse Case Manager is a Registered Nurse who provides coordination of care, case management, and facilitates timely return to work to ensure injury/claim resolution for MUHA/MUSC-P clinic patients injured at work, with particular emphasis in the area of occupational health. The Worker’s Compensation Nurse Case Manager is to coordinate medical care for an injured worker while serving as a conduit of information between the treating doctors and the workers’ compensation insurance company utilizes established protocols and current standards of care to meet the wide variety of health care needs of the MUHA/MUSC-P patient population.

Job Summary/Purpose: The Worker’s Compensation Nurse Case Manager is a Registered Nurse who provides coordination of care, case management, and facilitates timely return to work to ensure injury/claim resolution for MUHA/MUSC-P clinic patients injured at work, with particular emphasis in the area of occupational health. The Worker’s Compensation Nurse Case Manager is to coordinate medical care for an injured worker while serving as a conduit of information between the treating doctors and the workers’ compensation insurance company utilizes established protocols and current standards of care to meet the wide variety of health care needs of the MUHA/MUSC-P patient population.

Minimum Training and Education: Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and three years work experience as a Registered Nurse required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing with current enrollment in Master’s degree or higher program to be completed within 3 years with outlined Education Plan Form. If no advanced degree or program enrollment, must have 8 years case management experience in a clinical setting. Prior leadership experience required. Three years of case management and/or utilization review work experience in the Case Management and Care Transitions Department at MUSC. Case Management certification required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the state of South Carolina or compact state required. Certification in Case Management preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

(Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
