Job Description Summary
The System Chief Perfusionist (SCP)reports to the Heart and Vascular ICCE System Administrative Officer [SAO]. Under general supervision, the Chief Perfusionist is responsible for the management and coordination of patient care to include personnel and fiscal activities for the adult and pediatric teams. Under general supervision, the Chief Perfusionist is responsible for the management, oversight and coordination of patient care to include personnel and fiscal activities for the MUSC Charleston Adult and Pediatric Perfusion teams. In addition, the SCP will be responsible implementing standardized protocols and workflows and overseeing quality metrics and patient safety activities at all MUSC Health Regional Health Network sites where perfusion services are performed. This will include establishing a Perfusion System QAPI that is inclusive all RHN sites. The SCP will oversee the activities of the two Charleston perfusion managers (Adult and Pediatric) Those two managers, in collaboration and with oversight and ultimate decision-making authority from the SCP, will have direct responsibility for the management of the perfusion team; to include management of staff’s call and work schedules to ensure 24/7 coverage of perfusion services for both pediatric and adult patient populations, a regular cadence for staff meetings, timely communication to all members of the team, development of unit-based goals including quality metrics, to include yearly staff evaluations and feedback for staff development. This role will work collaboratively with the Medical Directors of Adult and Pediatric Perfusion, Heart & Vascular ICCE, Children and Women ICCE, Perioperative Business Director and Associate Chief Perioperative Officer, to develop and implement one, three and five-year strategic plans [Program growth, quality, labor resources, capital planning, EMR integration etc.] for MUSC CHS and the Health System affiliated RHN sites. The SCP will be expected to work with other programs on the eventual goal of forming a statewide cardiac surgery collaborative. SCP will serve as clinical call back-up, as needed. Additional Job Description
Requirements (Education, Work Experience, Licensure, Registry &/or Certifications) :
Bachelor of Science degree in Perfusion Technology or Bachelor of Science degree with a certificate in Perfusion Technology from an accredited cardiovascular perfusion education program with a minimum of seven (7) years of work experience as a perfusionist. Management experience preferred. Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required. Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red
Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
