Job Description
Under general supervision of shop foreman, performs skilled craftsman level trades related duties in various types of heating / air conditioning work. Make routine repairs, answers trouble calls, analyzing problems and executes action necessary to correct mechanical problems; participate in outages basis when more than one employee is needed to complete a task. Ensures that E.P.A. and other regulatory agency guidelines are followed. Ensures there are no unauthorized gas leaks. Performs related and non-related duties as required.
Job Responsibilities:
35% - Installs, repairs, inspects HVAC equipment and systems. This includes work on chillers, cooling towers, DX units, window units, ice machines, hot/cold rooms, motors, controls, etc. All sizes and types of HVAC systems. When working on equipment, ensures there is no unauthorized gas releases into the atmosphere. Makes installations, tests, and repairs in accordance with E.P.A. and other applicable regulatory guidelines.
25% - Recharges air conditioning systems with refrigerants as necessary. Reset air conditioning and refrigeration system and check for proper operation after power failure. Adjusts and calibrates pneumatic and electronics controls.
15% - Overhauls compressors, condensers and other equipment as needed. Diagnose and repair equipment problems pertaining to air conditioning, heating and refrigeration. Uses proper tools and electrical meter.
10% - Coordinates repairs and inspections with Energy Management Operator for proper shutdown and start up of air conditioning systems throughout campus.
10% - Supervises and instructs mechanics of lower grade. Brief supervisor of any problems that may affect proper operation of equipment.
5% - Maintain work area and job site in clean and orderly manner and performs miscellaneous and related duties as required.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three years trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A valid driver's license. Some positions require a commercial driver's license. Some positions require EPA-approved freon recovery certification. (Frequent) Ability to carry objects on plane, on ladders, up stairs, etc., weighing up to 50 lbs, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to push/pull equipment carts. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to operate winches, come-alongs, jacks, etc. (Continuous) Possess maintain dexterity in order to use hand tools, both manual and powered. (Continuous) Ability to qualify physically for respirator use. (Continuous) Additional New Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license. Ability to obtain and maintain EPA Approved Freon recovery certification.
