Job Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS) and Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) seek an outstanding cancer population or behavioral scientist to serve as a member of our faculty and help advance cancer prevention and population sciences research. Qualified applicants will be considered for a tenure track Assistant Professor position.

The successful candidate must have a doctoral or equivalent degree with training in behavioral sciences, , public health, informatics and data science, nursing, psychology, behavioral economics, health services, health economics, communication, decision sciences, sociology, or other related fields. Areas of interest include cancer research related to addictions risks, mechanisms, and treatment; population health; health communication; health disparities research; community-based research; telehealth; health services and policy research; shared decision making; and health promotion/health behavior.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to continue to develop their own research projects, work on public health and cancer center initiatives, assist in developing extramural grant applications in collaboration with other public health and cancer center investigators, provide mentorship and training to junior faculty at both DPBS and HCC, and, if applicable, support and participate in DPBS’ clinical programs.

DPBS a busy and productive academic department within the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), emphasizing excellence in teaching, research, and clinical care. Our talented faculty is committed to providing the highest quality of patient care in the treatment of mental illness and addiction. The Department hosts 13 individual divisions, as well as six specialty programs, that provide focused treatment to our patients. Research is also an important part of our department, and faculty continuously conduct studies in an effort to better understand and treat mental health conditions.

The Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in the State of South Carolina, serving 5.2M residents.
