Job Summary: The Division of Biobehavioral Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina is hiring for a clinical psychologist position. Candidate will be integrated into an existing Behavioral Medicine Clinic. This is a combined position that is 30% funded through MUSC’s Acute, Critical Care and Trauma ICCE, specifically the SC Burn Center. Candidate will actively be involved in quality and research related efforts to support the division’s overall academic missions. The clinical responsibilities will include pre-surgical evaluations, initial psychosocial assessments, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and post-surgical psychological care within the Behavioral Medicine Clinic and Burn Center Clinics. The position will include:
70% clinical services in Behavioral Medicine Clinic:
· There are a variety of clinical needs within our clinic, so there are opportunities to choose populations of interest
· Our primary areas of need at this time include:
o Metabolic and bariatric surgery (adolescent and adult): pre- and post-surgical psychological evaluation and management
o Transplant (heart, liver, lung, kidney, living donation): pre- and post-surgical psychological evaluation and management
o Cancer: Initial assessments and psychotherapy for patients with cancer (new diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, caregivers) and pre- and post-surgical psychological evaluations for bone marrow transplant candidates
o Initial evaluations and individual/group psychotherapy for patients with co-morbid psychiatric and medical illness
30% clinical services in the SC Burn Center:
· The psychologist will integrate Behavioral Medicine services (pediatric and adult) into the SC Burn Center
· The primary function of the psychologist will be to develop, grow and extend behavioral health services to patients and families of burn victims in SC.
· Clinical services will include:
o Behavioral health screening and assessment of patients and families during and after burn recovery
o Creation of treatment plans to address emotional, behavioral and psychosocial concerns
o Provide psychotherapy and behavioral health support to patients with a focus on behavioral pain management, burn recovery, mood management and general stress management
o Consultation and interprofessional collaboration with Burn Center providers regarding optimal treatment planning for patients and families during and after burn recovery.
Minimum Requirements:
Candidate will be a doctoral level, licensed Psychologist with a valid unrestricted license to practice in SC (or eligible for licensure in SC).
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background and clinical expertise in health psychology; proficiency in providing empirically supported evaluation and treatment interventions; willingness to engage in quality improvement and research projects with Behavioral Medicine and Burn Center populations; interest in supervising trainees in psychology; and enthusiasm in identifying opportunities for program development.
About The Division and Department:
The Behavioral Medicine Clinic is a tertiary behavioral medicine clinic with psychologists, psychiatrists, other prescribing providers, and trainees from psychology, psychiatry, pharmacy, and nursing coordinating mental health/behavioral health care for patients receiving medical care from MUSC’s specialty care teams. We primarily serve adults in an outpatient capacity, though we are growing our inpatient consultation and pediatric/teen/young adult patients within our integrated services (e.g., transplant, bariatric surgery, pain, oncology).
