Job Description Summary
Under the direct supervision of the manager of off-site locations and the general supervision of the GPR Program Director, this position provides comprehensive oral hygiene and periodontal care to dental patients of the Nexton and WAMP clinics as outlined by the South Carolina Board of Dentistry. This position will serve as back-up, support and fill-in for the dental hygienists in these clinics as needed. In addition, this position provides front office support as needed for the day-to-day operations of the dental clinic.Entity

Job Description
Job Duties:
35% Perform comprehensive oral examinations to chart existing restorations and conditions, as well as new findings, oral cancer screening, and full periodontal probing and charting. Perform oral prophylaxis, periodontal scaling and root planning, polishing, topical application of fluoride, and oral hygiene instructions. Document all patient care activities in the EHR according to guidelines set forth by the CDM and clinic manager Per HIPPA, maintain patient confidentiality by protecting patient information. 20% Capture radiographic images such as CBCT, panoramic, bitewings, PA's or intra-oral camera images per dentist's request. Properly place images in the EHR. Educate patients regarding the diagnostic necessity of radiographic images. [Essential]
10% Responsible for maintaining hygiene recall schedule. Contact patients to reschedule for missed and canceled appointments. Plan hygiene recall appointments and next restorative appointment for patients and assist with scheduling. Refer patients for appropriate follow-up care recognizing conditions that warrant additional treatment. Assist with all other front office duties as directed by the clinic manager to facilitate patient care including but not limited to answering phones, creating charts in the EHR, schedule patients, creating treatment plans, confirming appointments and insurance management. 10% Conduct oral health promotion and education and provide hygiene services under public health supervision at MUSC primary care sites designated as Rural Health Clinics. [Essential]
10% Maintain infection control of dental hygiene operatory as well as other areas of the dental office to provide safe and clean working environment in compliance with OSHA as well as MUSC's policies and procedures. Maintain and sharpen dental instruments as needed. Sterilize and maintain all dental hygiene instruments and equipment. [Essential]
10% Maintains dental supplies and inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies. Ensures instruments and supplies are maintained and stocked in dental operatories and other areas of the clinic. [Essential]
5% Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed as well as any other duties directed by the GPR Program Director. [Essential]
