Job Summary: Under indirect supervision, this role is required to perform moderate and occasional high complexity clinical diagnostic testing. This position performs routine histology laboratory testing procedures, quality control testing and general instrument troubleshooting and maintenance as needed. Additionally, general client service duties are included in this role.
35% - Perform histologic procedures on human tissues to include but not limited to routine histology, special stains, Immunohistochemistry procedures for microscopic examination by a pathologist. - (Essential)
25% - Assist in grossing specimens when resident or pathologist cannot be available, including transcription of gross descriptions for initial clinical pathology reporting. As needed, complete frozen sectioning for microscopic examination by a pathologist. - (Essential)
20% - Perform some receiving duties, such as, accession samples, speak with clients on lab inquiries and provide updates on cases at times. Verify slide/block matches, scan slides and deliver to their designated areas. File and pull blocks or slides in chosen storage areas. Fulfill additional send out requests for consultations, or additional special stains. - (Essential)
10% - Offer guidance and coordinate with histotechnologist I or lab assistants as needed to maintain productive workflow in the lab throughout the day. - (Essential)
10% - Stay up to date with inventory and alert supervisor when new orders are needed. Notify supervisor of any instrument malfunctions as necessary. - (Essential)
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent technical training in a related medical, scientific or technical discipline and two years journey-level work experience in a related field. ASCP HTL or HT required

(Infrequent) Ability to lift and carry objects up to 30 lbs. a distance of five (5) floors and to outlying buildings. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities.
