Job Summary:

The Family Tree Program within MUSC’s Addiction Sciences Division of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs (CDAP), is seeking a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed in South Carolina to join a specialized team providing evidence-based treatment to adolescents with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health concerns, including trauma and PTSD, and their families. The clinician will provide developmentally appropriate individual and family-based treatment across outpatient, community-based, and telehealth settings, with flexibility in service delivery based on the needs of adolescents and their families. This position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in evidence-based adolescent substance use treatment through specialized training, ongoing clinical supervision, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. The clinician will work closely with caregivers, community providers, schools, other youth-serving organizations, and team members to support treatment engagement, continuity of care, and access to services. In addition to direct clinical care, the clinician will contribute to treatment fidelity and quality improvement activities, participate in team and community meetings, and support outreach and education related to adolescent substance use, traumatic stress, and family functioning.

Job Duties:

 

• 30% - Provide evidence based individual therapy, which will also include family enhanced motivational enhancement therapy/cognitive behavioral therapy (MET/CBT), to adolescents with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health concerns.
• 30% - Provide caregiver, family-focused, and group therapy interventions designed to improve adolescent treatment engagement and outcomes, strengthen family functioning, and address factors contributing to substance use and recovery.
• 15% - Conduct substance use intake assessments and SBIRT with adolescents and their family members. This also will involve incorporating the assessment findings into treatment planning for the adolescents. In addition, the clinician will make referrals for family members for substance use and/or mental health treatment as needed. The clinician will coordinate these referrals with team members.
• 5% - The clinician will participate in supervision with a supervisor to discuss implementation of individual and family therapy. The clinician also will participate in regular (weekly) project meetings with the Project Director and other team member. The clinician will attend community-based meetings to ensure coordination of care with other providers involved with treatment of shared clients.
• 5% - The clinician will complete medical documentation, including therapy notes in EPIC and write and submit intake reports. The clinician will share this documentation for review by the supervisor of record.
• 5% - The clinician will track progress of each client and family member served. The clinician will report information to the project director, coordinator, and case manager (youth services and recovery coordinator) as needed. The clinician will engage in other administrative duties (e.g., administer the required SAMHSA outcome measure as each required timepoint) relevant to the Family Tree grant as needed.
• 5% - The clinician will provide community trainings on adolescent substance use, trauma, and impact on family to school and other settings that serve youth. These trainings may either be in person or virtual and will also include information as to how to make referrals to the Family Tree project.
• 5% - Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Experience: At least two years of providing evidence-based treatments to adolescents/families impacted by substance use disorders and with/without other co-occurring problems.

 

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina for one of the following:

• Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
• Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT)

 

Degree of Supervision: Minimal Supervision.

Preferred Experience:

• Demonstrated interest in working with adolescents and families affected by substance use.
• Experience engaging adolescents and families who may have difficulty accessing or remaining engaged in traditional outpatient treatment.
• Experience providing evidence-based treatment, particularly motivational interviewing/MET, CBT, family-based interventions, trauma-focused treatment, or substance use treatment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop rapport with adolescents, caregivers, and community partners.
• Ability to work independently while functioning collaboratively within an interdisciplinary clinical team.
• Comfort providing services flexibly across outpatient, telehealth, and community-based settings.
• Strong organizational, communication, and clinical documentation skills.
• Interest in community outreach and building relationships with schools and other youth-serving organizations.

Preferred Education:

• Licensed Social Worker (LISW): Master's Degree in Social Work or Social Welfare program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education required.
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC): Master's Degree in Counseling from an accredited program.
• Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT): Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy an accredited program.

Additional Job Description
