Job Summary: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an academically-oriented Renal Pathologist with expertise in medical renal and renal transplant. For 25 years MUSC has served as the only solid organ transplant center in South Carolina. It has received the designation of Blue Distinction® Center for Transplant in Adult Kidney Cadaveric, Adult Kidney Living, Pediatric Heart, Pediatric Kidney and Pediatric Liver.
This faculty member will be one of two renal pathologists overseeing the renal service, which includes on-site biopsy assessment as well as medical kidney and transplant kidney diagnostic services. The faculty member should also be proficient in immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. Ability to sign out heart biopsies (native and transplant) and skin immunofluorescence is strongly desired. The preferred candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational, scholarly and research activities of the department. This individual will instruct medical students, participate in the training of pathology residents as well as fellows. This will include renal pathology didactic lectures and multiple monthly renal pathology conferences. The relative percent effort for research, teaching, administrative duties, and patient care responsibilities will be tailored to the successful applicant’s experience and career goals. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
M.D. or equivalent degree with specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology, and eligible for medical licensure in South Carolina. Fellowship training in renal pathology is desirable, but not required.
