Job Description Summary

The department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at MUSC has an immediate opening for a highly motivated and collegial Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Noel Warfel. The Warfel lab focuses on the role of hypoxia and reoxygenation in tumor metastasis and drug resistance. The Successful candidate will perform integrated multi-omics, statistical and bioinformatics analysis to understand how temporal hypoxia alters cancer cell resistance to therapy and related biological processes. The lab is also invested in drug development and testing in prostate cancer and other solid tumors. The candidates will work to integrate multiomics data sets, including RNA-seq, lipidomics, and phosoho-proteomics

The candidate will be responsible for the generation and analysis of large-scale datasets and relating those findings to generate testable models for mechanistic investigations. Key responsibilities will be to integrate multi-omics to uncover mechanisms of therapeutic resistance and identify biological vulnerabilities related to changing oxygen in tumors. The candidate will work with the PI to implement a career development plan and participate in various career advancement opportunities. The candidate will also mentor undergraduate/graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the Lab.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Preferred:

  • Prior experience with multi-omics data analysis and publications in bioinformatics are preferred.

  • Must have the ability to think creatively and work independently as well as part of the team.

  • Must have strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Analyze and interpret complex transcriptomic, proteomic, and lipidomic datasets molecular datasets to identify novel biology related to tumor progression and metastasis

  • 30% - Collaborate with graduate students and scientists at MUSC to identify actionable targets for mechanistic evaluation of tumor biology

  • 15% - Work with the PI to create a career development plan and participate in various career advancement opportunities.

  • 15% - Interact and coordinate efforts with undergraduate/graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab.

  • 10% - Stay updated on the latest advancements in cancer biology, bioinformatics and genomics research and present findings to internal teams and external stakeholders, while also publishing research outcomes and presenting at conferences.
