Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Campus Shuttle Operator would be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of employees, students, or patients around the Medical District.

 

Job Duties: 

  • 25% - Transports employees, students and visitors to MUSC and areas within the assigned area of operations.. Boards and discharges passengers with concern and consideration in a safe and efficient manner. Monitor vehicle performance on the road and immediately isolate and remedy issues that are within the normal scope of a vehicle operator’s responsibility. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Maintains administrative and operational logs including, but not limited to, inspection forms, mileage logs, passenger counts, accident/incident reports and regular updates on mandatory training requirements. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Communicates effectively with passengers and customers in a respectful way regarding transportation schedules and services. Maintains thorough records of work performed, while making timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Responsible for fueling and cleaning of vehicle; mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and washing. Performs operator’s pre/post vehicle inspections and adds fluids as needed. Performed in all weather conditions consistent with safety. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to substituting for other drivers, quick rides, out of town travels (day trip). - (Essential)

 

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: Must be able to safely operate all types of motor vehicles including: cars, trucks, vans, and small buses. Communicate effectively and work efficiently under stress. Must have current, valid SC Driver's License and a certified copy of ten year driving record from DMV.

 

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A high school diploma and one year experience in truck driving, operating a crane or operating a motor vehicle.

Required Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid SC Commercial Driver's License, Class A or B with Passenger Endorsement

(Continuous) Possess good finger dexterity. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous) Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. (Continuous) Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to lift objects, up to 15 lbs., from floor level to height of 36 inches, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to lower objects, up to 15 lbs., from height of 36 inches to floor level, unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to push/pull objects, up to 15 lbs., unassisted. (Frequent) Ability to maintain 20/20 vision, corrected. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Must be ambidextrous. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to work in dusty areas. (Infrequent) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually. Ability to use hand/power tools. (Frequent) Additional New Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work overtime as required.

Departmental Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform cleaning/maintenance duties in all weather conditions and lift and move heavy objects such as mop/bucket, vacuum cleaner, etc. Requires sitting 80% of the time. Must be able to climb stairs.
