Job Description
MUSC Health Florence Pulmonology and Critical Care is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to care for the rapidly growing practice in Florence, SC. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is under the general direction and responsibility of the supervising/collaborating physician. The APP will assist with direct patient care, practice development, and implementation of policies and procedures to increase the continuity of care of all patients. The candidate will collaborate with members of the team to establish protocols, supervise treatment plan, and monitor quality of the clinical practice. The APP will also contribute to providing quality care to critical care patients in the hospital setting under the general direction and responsibility of the supervising/collaborating physician.

Hours per week: 40
Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: M-F 8A-5P
Patient Population focus: Inpatient, Outpatient, Procedural Unit, Infusion Suite, Emergency Department Management/Consultation.

Required Minimum Training and Education:
Degree of Supervision: AGACNP/ACNP or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Shared Decision-Making Visit for new referrals and annual follow-up
Screen Detected Lung Nodules
Incidental Findings
American College of Radiology
Assist in Lung Nodule Clinic
Provide Tobacco Treatment
Community Outreach and Marketing
Emergency Duties
1. Treat respiratory distress and/or emergent conditions in the absence of a physician or until a physician arrives.
2. Initiate basic life support/First Aid to the extent that training supports following current AHA guidelines. Maintain current BLS certificate.
Assists in Tobacco Treatment as part of the Lung Screening Program
1. Will work with Co-Director Benjamin Toll, PhD to become a tobacco treatment counselor.
2. Will counsel and educate current smokers on the benefits of smoking cessation.
3. Will provide tobacco treatment prescriptions (e.g., nicotine replacement, bupropion, varenicline) to eligible patients.
Works as part of the pulmonary critical care team in the pulmonary clinic
1. Co-manage patients across the spectrum of pulmonary disorders including asthma, COPD, sarcoidosis, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer etc.
2. Respond to patient concerns in office and/or in between visits. Order and follow up on labs, imaging tests, and other testing as indicated.
3. Order and interpret six-minute walk tests.
4. Order and interpret office spirometry and pulmonary function testing.
Result: A lung cancer screening program which focuses on screening appropriate patients, adherence to annual screening, interval lung nodule follow-up, and tobacco treatment.
Goal: To have an Advanced Practice Provider who provides lung cancer screening and tobacco treatment within national guidelines and recommendations.

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see, and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
