Job Description Summary

$10,000 Sign-On bonus for qualified candidates!

Under general supervision, provides technical support and assistance to the physician during diagnostic and invasive cardiovascular and peripheral vascular procedures. Performs scrub and hemodynamic monitoring duties with cardiac catheterizations, vascular and interventional radiology procedures using clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgement in accordance with professional and departmental standards and protocols. Provides care assessment prior, during and post procedural instruction to patients. Prepares and maintains all pertinent information related to procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an approved school of radiologic technology. 
  • Certification by ARRT
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification preferred.           
  • 2-3 years clinical experience in diagnostic and/or interventional cardiac catheterization lab preferred
  • BLS certification required on hire, or prior to completion of orientation;
  • Participates in educational updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibility;
  • Available to fulfill “on-call” obligations-response less than 30 minutes as requested; Demonstrates clinical competence in basic cardiac physiology/pathology, 12-Lead EKG interpretation; physiologic monitoring (intra cardiac pressure waveform knowledge), pacemaker operations (implantable and external) and other radiographic equipment related to cardiac care.

Work Environment:

Primarily works in a hospital or clinic setting.  Exposure to infectious disease.

Essential Functions:

Assists Cardiologist in performance of invasive diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. Maintains operational knowledge of CCL equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications. Provides care for patients prior, during and after procedures. Scrubs and assists Cardiologist as requested. Responds to patient distress situations and assists with equipment quality control and inventory management. Prepares sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, and maintains sterile field. Maintains operational knowledge of Cath Lab fluoroscopy and hemodynamic monitoring equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications. This includes but is not limited IVUS/FFR. Provides all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient’s procedures. Maintains knowledge of cardiac concepts and clinical practices inclusive of vascular sheath pulls. Responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator. Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies. Properly handles and processes images/data to include storage and transfer. Follows radiation safety policies as outlined by the NRC and Hospital’s Radiation Safety Committee. Maintains, troubleshoots, and operates fluoroscopy equipment to ensure operability and safety. Calibrates equipment and performs routine preventive maintenance procedures. Monitors and records patients' hemodynamic status during procedures, and assists the cardiologist. Acts as patient educator.  Explains procedure and answers questions prior to the procedure. Immobilizes patients as necessary and practices radiation safety procedures. Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams. Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation Acts rapidly and effectively, manages self, patients, and other employees during any emergency situation.

Is knowledgeable of location, care and operation of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab equipment. This includes but is not limited to: imaging and hemodynamic monitoring systems, defibrillation equipment, crash carts and contents, temporary pacemaker and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP). Maintains clean, organized unit and restocks supplies as necessary. Provides a calm, reassuring atmosphere and communicates effectively with each patient’s family to reduce stress. Participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable). Participates in CCL orientation procedures. Participates in the evaluation of in-service education programs.  Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.

 Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands reach, talk, and hear.  Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 100 % of the time.  Close vision and Color Vision are required.

Mental Requirements:

Must possess the ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence and

memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information one on

one or in small group situations to families, patients, visitors, or staff.  Must have the ability to perform more complex math functions to include calculating percentages, averages, volume, ratio and interpreting graphs – using numbers, money and units of measurement is required.  Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables and standardized situations.

Age Groups:

This position primarily interacts with adults and aging adults and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.

Current certification in Advanced Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
