Job Description
Prolonged, extensive, and considerable standing and walking. Must be able to lift, position, push or transfer patients, and lift supplies and equipment, subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards. May be occasionally exposed to unpleasant patient elements, including accidents, injuries, and illnesses. May be exposed to infections and infectious diseases.
Day-to-Day operations in the department include monitoring patient and staffing schedules. Collect/ monitor procedure volumes and send weekly/monthly reports to leadership teams. Submit the appropriate documentation to maintain Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Echocardiography Accreditation. Conduct monthly staff meetings and daily unit safety huddles. Submit and follow up on all departmental engineering and Biomed work orders.
Medicare compliance by ensuring correct ICD codes and charges are submitted correctly to ensure maximum reimbursement. Ensure that all Echo charges are entered daily and reconciled in RevID. Identify/communicate all capital needs to Cardiology Director. Obtain vendor quotes when appropriate.
Performs ECHO procedures according to protocols of departmental policies. Compiles pertinent patient information prior to performing the study.
Ensures that ECHO images, measurements and calculations are obtained and ready for physician’s interpretation.
Confers with physician, department head and/or other sonographers to obtain the best information with views, measurements and calculations.
Demonstrates abnormal findings and gives additional information to enable the cardiologist to better evaluate the ECHO.
Enters procedural charges into the computer system during the shift in which the procedure was performed.
Explains and educates patients to procedures and assists with patient care within the department.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as required by the department head and Director.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands reach, talk, and hear. Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25 % of the time and up to 100 pounds 75% of the time. Must have Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right) and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus).
Mental Requirements:
Ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff. Ability to work with complex mathematical concepts related to probability, statistical inferences, and to apply these concepts to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions.
This position primarily interacts with adults and aging adults and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.

Four years of experience performing ECHOs. Credentialed in echocardiography in one of the following: Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Maintains AHA BLS certification and completion of the Basic Arrhythmia Course.
