Job Description Summary
The Emergency Department Technician I reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician I performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. The Ashley River Tower Emergency Department is the Adult Emergency Department specializing in the care of cardiac, cardiothoracic, vascular, heme/oncology, and women's health emergencies. The Emergency Department Technician I works together with the team to deliver patient centered care and achieve desired outcomes. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to: checking patients in when they arrive and documenting their ED complaint, obtaining vitals signs, performing point of care testing, EKGs, starting IVs, and sending labs. The EDT I must be team oriented, enjoy a fast paced environment, and possess interpersonal skills necessary to deliver an exceptional customer service experience.Entity

Job Summary/Purpose: The Emergency Department Technician I reports to the Nurse Manager. The Ashley River Tower Emergency Department is the Adult Emergency Department specializing in the care of cardiac, cardiothoracic, vascular, heme/oncology, and women's health emergencies. The Emergency Department Technician I works together with the team to deliver patient centered care and achieve desired outcomes. Some responsibilities include, but are not limited to: checking patients in when they arrive and documenting their ED complaint, obtaining vitals signs, performing point of care testing, EKGs, starting IVs, and sending labs. The EDT I must be team oriented, enjoy a fast paced environment, and possess interpersonal skills necessary to deliver an exceptional customer service experience.
Minimum Training and Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. One year of patient care work experience in a health care facility, Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT or Paramedic certification, Bachelor’s Degree or enrollment in a healthcare related program with successful completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course at an accredited institution or equivalent training preferred.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
