Under general supervision of the RN, assists with endoscopic procedures and provides direct patient care before, during and following GI procedures. Job Summary:
Prepares the endoscopy room for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using appropriate techniques. Provides technical assistance in the endo room including set up, handling, and cleaning of endoscopy scopes and related equipment.
Work Environment:
May be exposed to infectious, contagious, or blood-borne diseases, hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids/waste, cleaning agents, and formaldehyde and to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment; may be subject to burns and cuts; occasional exposure to unpleasant patients or unit elements including accidents, injuries and illness.

Essential Functions:
Prepares rooms with appropriate scopes, supplies and equipment. Positions endoscopy patients for procedures and assist the Endoscopy team during the procedure. Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures, monitors and restocks supplies. Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs and trouble shoots equipment needs when necessary. Precepts new endoscopy staff. Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as required Performs other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to stand, walk, sit use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, hear and smell.
Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 50 pounds 50% of the time and up to 100 pounds 50% of the time.
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances) distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet away) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus).
Mental Requirements:
Able to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations; write reports, correspondence and/or manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees and medical staff.
Able to perform basic math functions, (add, subtract, multiply and divide) using numbers and units of money; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form and deal with problems involving concrete variables and standard situations.
Population Served
This position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
Additional Job Description
At least a high school diploma or equivalency with at least one year of patient care experience in a health care facility; or a Certified Nursing Assistant; or successful completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant course at an accredited institution or equivalent training; or EMT or Paramedic certification; or a bachelor's degree.
Successful completion of the SGNA modules for GI Technical Specialist within one year of hire. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
