Job Description Summary

Under indirect supervision, the Health, Wellness, and Human Performance Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence (ICCE), or the Health and Human Performance Manager will deliver exercise and human performance services established at the Health and Wellness Institute for the Medical University of South Carolina.

Credentialed as an Exercise and Rehabilitation specialist, the Health and Human Performance exercise specialist will be responsible for direct delivery of exercise and human performance services and program development collaboration in accordance with community need and coordination of care between internal and external systems.

Job Description

Ability to see the overall picture of the department/role and anticipate needs and think ahead when developing and establishing programs; ability to work efficiently and effectively with staff and administration of the Health and Wellness Institute; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required; relationship management and client services skills; ability to exercise good judgement in decision-making and planning; professional maturity; schedule flexibility and proficiency in virtual platforms to deliver services; and ability to work with individuals in a tactful diplomatic manner that enhances the image of the office.

  • Identify exercise and wellness deficiencies existing in the community & develop wellness initiatives to meet these needs
  • Develop and institute sport specific exercise programs (Golf, tennis/racquet sports, endurance sports)
  • Coordinate, develop, and institute outreach injury prevention programs with local school and club teams, as well as 1:1 or small group injury prevention programs on site at HW center
  • Will involve strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs, as well as direct clinical service delivery
  • Hospital patient centered programs.

Additional Job Description

A Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) degree required. Additionally, Strength and Conditioning specialist certification is preferred. Dry needling certification preferred. Experience in training or rehabilitation of athletes is desired.

Additional Job Details:

The Health and Human Performance position will involve non-traditional work hours to accommodate patients, with some evenings or weekends as agreed upon. The position will also involve travel for on-site delivery of services (e.g. school or club team practices) as stated above, development of both virtual and in person offerings, and collaboration with key stakeholders at MUSC with overlapping interests.

The qualified individual holding this position will be integrated as a key team member in the Exercise and Human Performance department within the Health and Wellness Institute. This individual must exhibit strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with clients and staff, operating efficiently to positively contribute to successfully standing up a new department. Success will be measured on the impact of this individual to build out and maintain effective exercise programs, while simultaneously recognizing exercise and wellness deficiencies existing in the community to develop wellness initiatives to meet these needs. The employee will report to the MUSC Health, Wellness, and Human Performance ICCE Administrator.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Experience with motion capture technology (DARI, Dartfish, etc)
  • Experience with force plates and recording data
