Part-time Permanent Position: 20-30 hours per week

Work Schedule: Thursday - Friday 8am-5pm; Wednesday 1pm-5pm

Clinic Hours: 8am-5pm M-F; no weekends

The Student Health Nurse Practitioner provides evidence-based ambulatory primary care to support the health needs of students at an academic healthcare campus as part of the MUSC Division of Education Innovation & Student Life in the Student Health & Wellbeing Clinic. This practice includes assessing, diagnosing, ordering necessary diagnostic tests, and implementing treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions, within the scope of practice of MUSC Student Health Services. This position is devoted to direct patient care and includes collaboration with other licensed healthcare professionals and staff.

Job Description

(35%). Provide comprehensive primary care to a young adult/adult population. Formulate, implement, and evaluate plans of care utilizing sound clinical judgement and evidence-based knowledge guided by accurate assessments of physical, psychological, emotional, and environmental needs of student needs.

Maintains professionalism and works independently within the APRN scope of practice to achieve clinical outcomes.

(35%). Establishes positive patient rapport and therapeutic relationships. Provides safe, ethical, patient-centered, culturally congruent, and evidence-based care. Documents patient care in the electronic medical record. Role-models and promotes a culture of health and well-being with excellent interpersonal skills along with promoting student self-management.

(20%). Facilitates nursing staff to perform patient triage and care, nursing and medical interventions as ordered, vaccine clinics, immunization verification process and protocol for blood borne pathogen exposures. Collaborates with the clinical team to ensure that MUSC students meet university pre-matriculation requirements and maintain ongoing compliance with university student health requirements (e.g., annual flu vaccine, annual TB surveillance). When consulted, provides university immunization and compliance requirements for visiting students.

(5%). Provides backup coverage for other FNPs including supervising and managing SHS staff as necessary. If the Director is absent, may be asked to assume the clinic leadership role. Represent SHS on any committees as determined by the Director.

(5%). Performs other related duties as required including maintains a level of professional development through continuing education, quality/process improvement initiatives, and sharing of knowledge.

Requirements (education/work experience)

Graduation from an accredited graduate nursing program with a MSN and/or DNP, and five-years related experience. Prefer experience in young adult/adult primary care and student-centered care promoting health and wellbeing. Nursing management and leadership experience preferred. Requires licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing and certification in Basic Life Support and/or certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing and two years of related experience as an LPN. Positions in this classificaiton require licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Requires certification in Basic Life Support prior to the completion of general orientation. Additional New Requirements: Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
