Job Description Summary

The Nurse Manager of the Admit Transfer Center reports to the System Director of Patient Flow. Under limited supervision, the Nurse Manager, Admit Transfer Center has 24-hour responsibility for ensuring the appropriate and timely placement of patients within MUSC Health. This position manages the day-to-day operations for the Admit Transfer Center, including bed assignments and accurate and timely documentation of the patient placement process. This role also includes oversight of Telemedicine functions such as tele-stroke calls, coordination and scheduling of telemedicine appointments. The role assists in the development and implementation of admission and patient placement policies and practices and telemedicine policies and practices and coordinates with medical, nursing, and accounting staff to ensure appropriate patient placement and telemedicine processes.

Job Description

Manages one or more functional areas of a department. Manages two or more professional and support staff including subordinate supervisors. Typically has hire, fire, or promotion authority. Evaluates and makes improvements to department processes while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations. More discretion and greater financial authority than other lower management levels. Manages initiatives, strategic priorities and programs which have an impact on the organization. Works independently and in collaboration with leadership to support the budget process and meeting key operational goals. Plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates activities and functions of the department/functional business area based employee/organizational goals. Collaborates with leaders to establish operating procedures, enhance clinical/non-clinical workflows, increase productivity, and improve overall quality outcomes and operational efficiencies within a variety of delivery settings.

Additional Job Description

Education: Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) degree and a Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college/university; Master of Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of nursing work experience required (three years of nursing experience and two years of supervisory experience). Credentials: Certification in specialty area preferred or completion within one year of eligibility strongly encouraged. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or compact state required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Physical Requirements:

(C) Ability to fully use both legs. (C) Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination.  (F) Ability to reach in all directions. (C) Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. (I) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (I) Ability to lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. (I) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (F) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected. (C) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (C) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (C) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (C) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (C) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (C) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (C) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (C) Ability to work rotating shifts. (F) Ability to work overtime as required. (F) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (C) *Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
