Job Summary:
A psychometrist is responsible for the administration and scoring of psychological and neuropsychological tests under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Psychometrists are an important part of the evaluation process and work closely as a team with faculty psychologists who provide training and ongoing supervision in test administration and scoring. The position also will involve assisting in the administration of psychometric tests according to various research protocols, assisting with training incoming interns, postdoctoral fellows, and part-time psychometrists, and administrative support related to faculty psychologists’ clinical and research activities. The psychometrist position will provide exposure to a wide variety of pediatric populations, and supervision by licensed psychologists.
MUSC Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
A high school diploma and two years relevant program experience. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, flexible, and a self-directed learner who can quickly master psychometric administration and scoring procedures.
Preference will be given to applicants who possess at a minimum of a bachelor's degree in psychology from an accredited college or university, relevant psychometry experience, knowledge of psychometric principles, and ability to interact professionally with diverse staff and patient populations, especially children.
Job Duties:
25% - (Essential):
- Establish an appropriate testing environment. Establish rapport with patients during psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations. Use behavior management strategies to elicit patients’ best performance.
20% - (Essential):
- Accurate administration of psychometric tests according to standardized procedures as selected by faculty psychologists for psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations.
- Accurate scoring of psychometric test results according to national norms.
20% - (Essential):
- Accurate entry of data (test results and scores) and qualitative descriptions in report templates of faculty psychologists.
- Documentation of detailed behavioral observations of the examinee during testing to aid in test
interpretation.
15% - (Essential):
- Assist administrative staff with scoring referral packets.
- Score behavior rating scales and other tests for faculty physicians and psychologists.
10% - (Essential):
- Manages incoming patient packets.
- Assist with the training of psychology interns, postdoctoral fellows, and part-time psychometrists in the standardized administration of psychometric tests.
10% - (Essential):
- Maintain and organize the inventory of testing supplies and notify faculty psychologists when testing supplies need to be ordered.

The Advanced Fetal Care Center ensures that families expecting babies with complex congenital birth defects or medical problems receive care from board-certified maternal-fetal medicine providers collaborating with a large multidisciplinary care team of pediatric specialists. The PTWP care is one of only a handful of women’s facilities in the country to offer couplet-care rooms, where newborns and mothers can recover together in an intensive-care setting.
