Job Description Summary

Responsible for the relationship development and management of a portfolio of assigned strategic partnerships across MUSC’s tripartite mission. Identify, develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders to drive innovative collaborations and achieve MUSC’s strategic goals. Serve as a key steward of the relationship between MUSC and the partner, responsible for providing oversight and working to achieve the goals of the partnership. Build long-term relationships with the portfolio of assigned partners and other key external stakeholders.

Skills required:

Strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills; diplomatic, balanced approach to business; strong negotiation, listening, and presentation skills; advanced analytical and critical thinking, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Candidate must be able to multi-task, prioritize, be proactive about navigating challenging situations and recognizing opportunities.

Experience with a customer relationship management (CRM) database tool as well as advanced PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office suite skills. Attendance at some early morning and evening meetings/events will be required.

Degree of Supervision

This person is under the direct supervision provided by the Director of Strategic Partnerships.

Job Duties (list job tasks)

  • Operationalize new partnerships by facilitating the development of governance processes, ensuring the alignment of key internal and external stakeholders, and tracking progress towards meeting the objectives of the relationship.
  • Develop and negotiate new partnerships with industry leaders and peer institutions under the guidance of the Office of Strategic Partnerships that include innovative business models such as shared risk and reward, joint development, and collaborative research.
  • Manage existing partnerships by understanding the overall goals and deliverables, identifying issues and roadblocks as they arise, navigating complex dynamics with internal and external stakeholders to solve them, and recognizing when to escalate.
  • Track all partnership deliverables and ensure timely delivery of work products related to the partnership, including managing all oversight processes and meetings.
  • Prepare reports on status of partners; brief, communicate, and prepare members of leadership team on progress.
  • Identify new opportunities and areas of collaboration within strategic partnerships, and flex to meet the changing needs of both MUSC and the partner.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and leverage relationships with partners who can strengthen MUSC’s ability to meet strategic goals and address challenges.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance long-lasting relationships with key external stakeholders, including business and community leaders.

Additional Job Description

Required Minimum Education and Work Experience:

A bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience. A degree in business, marketing, sales, public relations, communications is preferred but not required. Work experience in industry or the private sector and/or an MBA or MHA is helpful but not required. Completion of CAPM or PMP within 2 years of hire.

Physical Requirements

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 20 lbs (+/-) unassisted. Lift from 36” to overhead 15 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
