Job Description
As a Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) at MUSC, you will provide essential support to healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care across various clinical settings. Building on your foundational skills and experience as a PCT, you will take on additional responsibilities and contribute to the efficient operation of patient care units, ensuring optimal comfort, safety, and well-being for all patients under your care.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care: Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and ambulation, while maintaining dignity, privacy, and respect for individual preferences and cultural considerations.
Vital Signs Monitoring: Perform regular assessments of vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation, and promptly report any significant changes or abnormalities to the nursing team.
Specimen Collection: Collect and label specimens for laboratory analysis, following established protocols and infection control procedures to ensure accurate and timely processing and documentation of test results.
Assistance with Procedures: Assist healthcare providers with various medical procedures and treatments, such as wound care, catheterization, phlebotomy, and EKGs, ensuring proper technique, patient comfort, and adherence to safety standards.
Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients' condition and behavior, promptly responding to calls for assistance, identifying signs of distress or discomfort, and notifying the nursing staff or appropriate personnel as needed.
Documentation and Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient care activities, including vital signs, intake and output measurements, patient observations, and any interventions or treatments provided, in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Equipment Maintenance: Clean, disinfect, and maintain patient care equipment and supplies, including beds, bedside tables, wheelchairs, and patient care kits, to ensure proper functioning and compliance with infection control standards.
Patient Transport: Assist with the safe and efficient transfer of patients between units, departments, and diagnostic areas, using appropriate transfer techniques and equipment to minimize the risk of injury or discomfort.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with members of the healthcare team, including nurses, physicians, therapists, and other support staff, to coordinate patient care activities, communicate pertinent information, and promote a cohesive and patient-centered approach to care delivery.
