Job Description

Job summary: Assists a registered pharmacist with support activities and processes required to dispense medical prescriptions. Collects, inputs, and verifies prescription, refill, and patient information. Receives and stocks incoming supplies. May prepare labels and routine prepacked orders. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. 

Description: The Pharmacy Technician I report to the Pharmacy Manager. Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Technician I support the drug distribution activities of the Department of Pharmacy Services.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP). This technician must complete the PTCB board certification exam and pass within 6 months of hire. If the Technician I care team member has not attained PTCB certification within one year of employment (during the probationary period) they will be separated from service.

Required License Certification and Registration: Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP). This technician must complete the PTCB board certification exam and pass within 6 months of hire.

(Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with corrections. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.

Additional Job Description

Education: High School Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 0-6months
Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the State of South Carolina Board of Pharmacy (SCBOP)is required and must be maintained.  Must obtain and maintain Pharmacy Technician Certification (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT)) certification:

  • Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 1 year of 11/1/2023.
  • New Team members as of 11/1/2023: within 6 months of hire.
  • New team members who are enrolled or will enroll in a pharmacy technician training program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and/or recognized by PTCB, have 30 days post program completion to obtain certification.
