Job Description Summary
The CVICU is a 21 bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit specializing heart failure, VAD and heart transplant work ups, LVAD, heartware, heart transplantation, double lung transplantation, cardiac surgeries to include coronary bypass, valve replacements and repairs, aortic dissection repairs, thoracic surgeries to include esophagectomies and pneumonectomies. We also have a lot of devices i.e. balloon pumps, centrimags/ECMO, as well as all heart ware, HMII and HMIII. Because we are specialized and high paced unit we get surgical and medical patients so orientation is pretty extensive. We also have the capabilities of reopening a chest at the bedside, placing chest tubes, thoracentesis/paracentesis and other procedures that in other places may require going to the OR or procedural suite. Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3-12 hour shifts. Shifts vary based on the needs of the department.
Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
