Job Description

Is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Department of Public Safety and Security for the Catawba Division. Enforces all applicable laws, rules and regulations of MUSC Catawba Division.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the supervision, counseling and evaluation of all Safety & Security Officers in the Catawba Division. Directly responsible for the supervision and administration of the department's recruitment selection and promotion process. Ensure that said processes are in accordance with M.U.S.C. Human Resources policy and conforms to current laws and regulations.
• Reviews and implements all departmental policies and procedures, as well as operations plans insuring compliance with all local, State and Federal laws standards.
• Reviews, investigates, and performs annual analysis all Use of Force Incidents, implementing remedial training and disciplinary action when necessary.
• Coordinates and conducts the investigation of complaints made against department personnel.
• Responsible for any and all disciplinary actions and grievances taken within the department, reviews coordinates and prepares the paperwork in all but those actions requiring suspension or termination, in concurrence with the Facilities Divisional Director

Experience: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Ability to commentate tactfully with the general public and specialty patients including patients with behavioral health concerns or those with altered mental status that may want to cause harm to themselves or others. Knowledge of methods of security in buildings and grounds to include ability to de-escalate situations once alerted. Ability to engage in physical confrontations with suspected offenders and handle situations as they arise.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Education: A bachelor's degree or five year's experience supervising law enforcement or safety and security personnel.  Two years of supervisory experience as a lieutenant of higher rank is preferred.

Certification/License: This position requires a current and valid driver’s license and minimal computer literacy.
