Job Description Summary
Provides direct nursing care to both in and out-patients during cardiac stress testing, transesophageal echocardiograms, tilt table tests, and electrical cardioversion. The Stress Lab RN utilizes a high level of knowledge of cardiac or chemical stress testing and effectively communicates issues with physicians. The RN will interpret data received before the procedure and use nursing judgment that is in line with safety protocols. The Cardiac Nurse must be self-directed and act independently and intervene as appropriate to resolve issues. The Stress Lab RN is responsible for implementing the philosophy, objectives, standards of care, policies, and procedures of Cardiac Services under the supervision of the Cardiologist.Entity

Directs assessment, evaluation, and monitoring for all patients undergoing any cardiac stress testing in the Cardiac Diagnostic Stress Lab. Collects patient history and physical review to include current medication records. Assuring informed consent and obtaining all necessary patient signatures. IV insertions. IV medication administration. Administer moderate sedation and monitor the patient per hospital policy. Emergency administration of medication upon physician orders. Cardiopulmonary monitoring and status assessments as needed. Reviews the patient’s labs prior to the procedure and the administration of any medication. Assist physician in providing diagnostic services to patients in the Cardiac Stress Lab. Intervenes in emergency situations. Confers with the physician as needed based on the medical status of the patient. Documents patient information in the medical record. Work closely with the medical, nursing, and ancillary staff to provide quality and safe patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to walk, stand, use your hands, reach, kneel, talk, hear and smell. Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25% of the time and up to 100 pounds 75% of the time. Must have close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen move up/down or left/right) and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus).
Mental Requirements
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret complex scientific, clinical, or business journals, financial reports, or legal documents. Must have the ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, staff, and members of the business community. Must possess the ability to write persuasive correspondence, speeches, and articles for publication. Ability to effectively present information to top management, large public groups,
and boards of directors. The ability to work with more complex math functions including calculating percentages, averages, volume, and ratios and interpreting graphs – using numbers, money and units of measurement is required. Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to deal with concrete and abstract concepts and interpret verbal, nonverbal and written instructions is necessary.
This position primarily interacts with adults and aging adults and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
Additional Job Description
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the state of South Carolina. Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience in cardiovascular care or cardiac stress lab. BLS and ACLS certification is required.
