Job Description
Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor and Manager, responsible for delivering accurate, efficient, and reliable payroll services to University employees. Play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of payroll processing and fiscal operations. Responsible for managing payroll data, analyzing financial transactions, and providing customer support to workers and internal teams.
30% Payroll Processing
- Timely and accurately process payroll for assigned University biweekly and monthly paid employees in Workday Payroll in compliance with MUSC policies and regulatory requirements. • • Ensure data integrity and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, and tax laws. • Review and verify employee payroll data, including earnings, time and absence, taxes, and wage deductions. • Address payroll inquiries and resolve issues and discrepancies in a timely manner
30% - Data Analysis
- Review payroll data to identify discrepancies, errors, and areas of improvement. Set up benefit payment plans as needed. Audit supported and unsupported retroactive adjustments using the Retro Calculation Processing Report in WD prior to payroll processing. Research, complete or take corrective action for supported and unsupported retroactive adjustments to include time keeping and absence, compensation, benefit changes, voluntary and involuntary deductions, company transfers, pay group changes, and any other retroactive data changes. • Analyze payroll termination report to identify overpayments. Utilize PEBA SCRS system to get the classification of terminated workers and make adjustments to any Class III termination payouts. • Confirm annual leave payouts on an On or Off Cycle payroll for Company transfers, pay group changes, and applicable employee classification changes. • Run and review the payroll teams Work Day audit reports prior to payroll processing. Identify errors and make corrections as needed for assigned alpha. • • Notify workers without payment elections to set up banking information for direct deposit prior to processing their payroll.
25% Customer Support
• Serve as primary point of contact for University clients regarding payroll-related inquires and requests. Provide assistance and support to clients on Work Day payroll system functionality, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques. • • Respond to inquiries and voice messages from the payroll helpline within 24 hours. • Participate in testing, upgrades, and enhancements with HR and sustainment to improve payroll processes.
10% Reporting
• Generate and analyze payroll reports each pay cycle using the payroll processing checklist. File payroll audit reports and backup for any payroll adjustments made in the University Output folders by assigned payroll number
5% - Other duties and cross training as assigned
Additional Job Description
Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three years professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, finance or commercial lending. A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for two years of the required work experience.
