Job Description
Job Summary: This full time Assistant Professor position is in the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVRTC) Division of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at MUSC. The position requires the faculty member to hold a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology and devote approximately 85% time to research activities. The majority of these research activities are associated with an NIH Pathway to Independence grant (K99/R00) from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) upon which the candidate will serve as Principal Investigator and that was approved and awarded on the first submission. This five-year grant provides two years of postdoctoral support and three years of NICHD R00-funded support for independent research project.
The majority of the research time will be devoted to the R00 project which is implementation and evaluation of an innovative brief intervention (i.e., the Project Support Positive Parenting Module) designed to be delivered via telehealth by paraprofessionals with caretakers of children on the wait list for trauma treatment by the NCVRTC child treatment clinic. A lessor amount of the research time will be to work with Drs. Kilpatrick, Dan Smith, and Angie Moreland on research projects associated with the Department of Justice/Office for Victims of Crime-funded National Mass Violence Center.
The job expectations are that the candidate will apply for licensure in South Carolina and complete the requirements for licensure as expeditiously as possible. Once the candidate is licensed, they will do limited clinical supervision of clinical psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows. She will also do teaching and mentorship of clinical psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows starting immediately. An important part of the duties in this position will be to initiate the process of developing and obtaining extramural funding for an independent research program. Finally, as is the case for most faculty members at the NCVRTC, the candidate will be expected to collaborate with other faculty members in research, teaching, and clinical care planning and projects.
Minimum Requirements: Candidate must hold PhD in Psychology or related field.
