Job Description

Job Duties:

  • Oversee residents and care for patients as an attending physician in the MUSC Emergency Department for approximately 64 hours per month

  • Evaluate residents and medical students and provide feedback for improvement

  • Oversee the Program Evaluation Committee for the MUSC Emergency Medicine Residency program

  • Complete a scholarly project related to medical education. Present findings at scientific conferences and in the form of peer-reviewed publications.

  • Attend the Council of Residency Directors Academic Assembly

  • Participate in the ACEP Teaching Fellowship

  • Complete the CORD Medical Education Research Certificate (MERC)

  • Oversee the didactic curriculum and Grand Rounds for the MUSC Emergency Medicine Residency

  • Assist with educational activities for UME learners rotating through emergency medicine courses

  • Lead quarterly journal club sessions

  • Participate in the development and delivery of simulation teaching sessions with our SIM director

  • Read papers and books as selected by the fellowship director in medical education

  • Assist with interviews for the emergency medicine residency

  • Participate in departmental and undergraduate medical school committees as selected by the candidate

  • Develop a teaching portfolio by the end of the fellowship

  • Meet with fellowship leadership monthly

Licensures, Registrations, and Certifications

Candidate must be a graduate of an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency and be board-certified or board-eligible.  A South Carolina medical license and hospital credentialing are required prior to start date of the EUS Fellowship.

(Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Must be able to maintain bi-lateral hand movement skills. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually.
Additional New Requirements: Ability to maintain a valid drivers license. Computer literacy. Ability to work rotating shifts. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required.
