Job Description Summary

This is a full-time tenure-track position as an Educator/Clinician in the Graduate Practice Program within the MUSC College of Nursing. The qualified candidate is expected to support the college's teaching mission through didactic and clinical teaching in the MSN and DNP Programs and maintain clinical practice as a PNP. Upon hire, successful candidates are expected to relocate to the Charleston, South Carolina area.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:  Earned master’s degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP). Candidates should be eligible for South Carolina APRN licensure and hold national certification as a PNP with at least two years of APRN practice experience in primary care or related settings.  Successful candidates will have effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and abilities. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the Military Training Network.  An MSN-prepared candidate must enroll in a doctoral (DNP or PhD) program or begin a DNP or PhD program within the first two years of employment.

Preferred qualifications:  The preferred candidate will have an earned DNP or doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, current national board certification as a PNP, and demonstrated evidence of commitment to professional scholarship.  Demonstrated evidence of prior teaching experience, including precepting APRN students and experience with or interest in competency-based education, case-based or problem-based teaching, is ideal, focusing on student-centric learning.  Experience in graduate online teaching methods is preferred. However, the motivated candidate without teaching experience who meets the educational requirements (current board certification and practice as a PNP) will be considered.

Formal Accountability:  Reports to the Assistant Dean for Graduate Practice Programs
 

Responsibilities:
a)    Facilitate an asynchronous online teaching and learning environment 
b)    Implement innovative, competency-based online teaching strategies
c)    Participate in on-campus DNP program learning intensives on days not in the clinical setting.
d)    Implement curriculum as part of a team and participate in ongoing and annual curriculum reviews and changes that support contemporary trends and requirements in graduate education.
e)    Lead or work on faculty team(s) to develop and modify academic courses to ensure ongoing quality improvement and mapping of the AACN Essentials for Nursing Education. 
f)    Assume the role of Course Coordinator and other duties as assigned 
g)    Maintain communication with course coordinators, faculty colleagues, and administrators 
h)    Engage in professional PNP practice in primary care or a related field as part of the faculty contract, dedicating a minimum of 20% effort (8 hours/week). Clinical responsibilities and practice site arrangements will be established in collaboration with the CON Office of Practice and negotiated with affiliated practice partners.
i)    Precept MUSC CON APRN students in the practice setting
j)    Maintain PNP credentials, licensure, and national certifications required to practice as an PNP
k)    Maintain a record of scholarship through dissemination, presentations, and publications that are consistent with the college appointment, promotion, and tenure (APT) guidelines 
l)    Supervise APRN students in clinical settings as clinical faculty, evaluate clinical logs, and communicate with preceptors
m)    Facilitate DNP scholarly project work as assigned
n)    Attend course, program, and college meetings in person or via web-based technology.
o)    Adhere to MUSC College of Nursing policies
p)    Maintain proficiency as an educator and clinician
q)    Support the college’s values for an environment and culture of respect, inclusivity, equity, and belonging

Housed within MUSC SJCH, the Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion (PTWP) seamlessly integrates children’s care and obstetrical services, thereby enhancing safety and improving outcomes in low and high-risk pregnancies. The Advanced Fetal Care Center ensures that families expecting babies with complex congenital birth defects or medical problems receive care from board-certified maternal-fetal medicine providers collaborating with a large multidisciplinary care team of pediatric specialists. The PTWP care is one of only a handful of women’s facilities in the country to offer couplet-care rooms, where newborns and mothers can recover together in an intensive-care setting.
