Job Description Summary

We are seeking a reliable candidate for a full-time lab research technician position in Taniguchi and Lavin Lab at the Medical University of South Carolina in the Department of Neuroscience. The Taniguchi and Lavin labs investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of behavioral plasticity underlying substance use disorders, using a preclinical animal model. The ideal candidate should be a dedicated team player with an interest in science. While prior laboratory experience is preferred, it is not required, as trainings will be provided. Responsibilities will include conducting rodent behavioral testing and performing molecular biology experiments.

Job Description

Job Duties:

35% - Molecular biology experiment: Perform proteomic analysis, gene expression analysis, staining brain tissue (Immunohistochemistry), and developing gene and protein manipulation viral constructs using PCR and restriction enzymes.

30% - Animal Behavior assays: Conduct behavioral experiments in rodents, including drug exposure to assess drug-related behavioral phenotypes. Collect brain and other tissue samples from rodents.

20% - Data collection and analysis: Collect and analyze experimental data, maintain accurate records, participate in experimental planning and discussion, and collaborate with lab members


10% - Laboratory maintenance: Maintain lab operations, including monitoring supplies and ordering necessary experimental items.


5% - Other Duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years journey-level technical experience in a related laboratory setting. A bachlor's degree in a related scientific discipline may be substituted for the required work experience.
