Clinical Component
At MUSC, our Laryngology program delivers a comprehensive spectrum of specialized expertise. We take pride in our distinctive offerings, such as our professional voice initiative, forged through a unique collaboration with the College of Charleston and the esteemed International Spoleto Festival. Moreover, our focus on dysphagia and reflux training is one of the most advanced in the country, ensuring a thorough understanding and skill set in techniques like videofluoroscopy, transnasal esophagoscopy, pharyngoesophageal manometry, and pH testing. We offer in-depth experience with complex airway issues, encompassing both endoscopic and open approaches. Our curriculum also emphasizes practical experience in a range of office-based procedures. This includes laser procedures, injection augmentation, serial intralesional steroid injections for airway stenosis, electromyography, botulinum toxin injections, and unsedated esophageal dilation.

The fellow will spend one to two days per week in the operating room, and 2.5 to 3.5 days per week in clinic. The caseload is over 1,000 operative cases and 4,200 clinic visits per year. The fellow will round and participate in all inpatient care. The fellow will participate in the attending otolaryngology call pool rotation.

This fellowship encompasses all aspects of laryngology and incorporates complex cases from our Head and Neck Surgery Division. The fellow will be expected to attend all major cases and participate in daily rounds, teaching sessions, weekly conferences (including weekly Laryngology Rounds and Head and Neck Tumor Board), and research activities.
