Job Description Summary

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a clinician-scientist with a MD degree to serve as Medical Director of the Sleep Laboratory in the Sleep and Anxiety Treatment and Research Program (SATRP). This SATRP Sleep Research Laboratory provides the main sleep research resource for not only for psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences but also faculty members conducting sleep research with primary appointments in many different clinical departments.

The current laboratory is a 2-bed sleep research unit, which is being upgraded into a 6-bed unit, which will accommodate both children and adults. As the main research arm of the MUSC Sleep Center, this laboratory is accredited by The American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The successful candidate must be Board Certified in Sleep Medicine with preference given to diplomats in either Pediatrics and/or Psychiatry and Neurology. A track record of funded research is desirable. The Medical Director of the SATRP Sleep Laboratory will have his/her primary faculty appointment in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences with possible secondary appointment(s), as qualified, in Pediatrics, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Otolaryngology, and Dentistry.

The Medical Director provides supervision to residents, psychology interns, fellows, and medical students. Clinical services will be provided at the Institute of Psychiatry and may also involve consultative and clinical services as part of the MUSC Sleep Center.

The Medical Director of the SATRP Sleep Laboratory will report to the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

FLSA: Salaried

Minimum Requirements: Must hold a terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., or similar).
