Job Description Summary
The Department of Surgery is actively recruiting for a part-time Early Violence Prevention and Intervention Client Advocate. This individual will work with high-risk youth through MUSC’s Turning the Tide Violence Intervention Program (TTVIP), a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP). Based out of MUSC Health – Charleston’s Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma centers, TTVIP aims to prevent and reduce community and interpersonal violence among youth and young adults by providing comprehensive wrap-around, multidisciplinary services to address patients’ underlying risk factors and social determinants of health. The purpose of this role is to provide early intervention to adolescents identified in the healthcare setting as at high risk of experiencing community violence and are referred to TTVIP by MUSC Health providers. Early intervention services include performing need & risk assessments, mentorship, case management, service navigation, resource referral, and long-term client and family support.Entity

Job Description
Pay Range:
Minimum: $38,985.00
Mid Point: $55,559.00
Maximum: $72,134.00
Job Duties:
The advocate will identify and connect clients to services for healthcare and mental health, substance misuse, housing, employment, education, healthy relationships, criminal justice advocacy, arts and recreation programs, and other resources as appropriate to holistically address clients’ risks, needs and goals. (35%)
The advocate will collaborate closely with minor clients’ parents/caregivers to ensure open communication, a clear understanding of expectations, and coordination of services and referrals in the best interest of the client. (15%)
The advocate will provide long-term case management support to enrolled clients in clinical and community-based settings, such as clients’ homes, schools, medical appointments, court hearings, etc. The advocate will utilize skills and techniques including motivational interviewing, brief action planning, mentorship, and goal setting to engage clients and promote participation in the intervention. (15%)
The advocate will document the provision of all services in clients’ medical charts and/or TTVIP’s case management databases. This data is recorded for the purposes of documentation of the intervention, quality improvement, program evaluation, research, and grant writing and reporting. (15%)
The advocate will conduct comprehensive assessments throughout a client’s enrollment in the program to inform and adjust individualized intervention plans. (10%)
The advocate will support hospital and community outreach and education activities to engage and educate students, healthcare providers, community members, and other stakeholders on evidence-based violence prevention and intervention strategies and trauma informed care. (5%)
Other duties as assigned, including active participation in meetings, trainings, and other administrative tasks. (5%)
Preferred Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, psychology, health education, or other human services field and at least 1 year of relevant experience required. Experience in community violence prevention and intervention or trauma-informed support services preferred. Experience working with diverse, high-risk youth required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Experience in motivational interviewing, mentorship/peer counseling, goal setting, and case management preferred. Experience documenting service provision preferred. Experience with the Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred. Driver’s license to support client and community outreach activities required.
