Job Description
The Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration and Neurotherapeutics in the Darby Children’s Research Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston is recruiting two highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral fellows to investigate the pathogenesis of age-related and childhood neurodegenerative diseases using cellular and rodent disease models. The laboratory adopts a translational approach to identify and validate novel therapeutic strategies. To achieve these goals, the laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach employing molecular, cellular, and biochemical experimental techniques in several model systems, including human cell lines, primary neuronal cultures, genetically modified mouse models, and human brain tissue. The successful candidates are expected to lead the projects independently and manage transgenic mouse colonies and cellular models to address significant questions regarding the emergence of age-related and childhood neurodegenerative diseases, discover disease-relevant biomarkers, and develop novel therapeutic approaches. The applicants must have a demonstrated track record, including first-author papers in biological sciences/neurosciences or related fields of study. The ability to collaborate in a team and multi-lab environment is a must. Experience in transcriptomics, molecular biology, biochemical assays, and handling of genetically engineered mouse and rat models is desired. Salary will be based on experience per NIH scale.
