Job Description Summary

The MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness (MUSC BCCW), located within the Department of Pediatrics, serves communities throughout South Carolina. The goal of MUSC BCCW is to provide innovative supports to the school sectors aimed at promoting optimal health and wellness for children, adolescents, and school staff. The vision of BCCW is to cultivate a culture of wellness where every child is healthy, succeeds in school, and thrives in life. MUSC BCCW accomplishes this objective by partnering with school administrators, staff, and community partners across South Carolina to develop and implement school-based strategies that foster healthier school environments.

Job Description

The Department of Pediatrics is currently recruiting for a Program Manager I. The Program Manager I provides direct support and motivation to assigned schools and districts across the state as they implement evidence-based wellness strategies through their participation in MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness school-based wellness initiative.



Job Duties:

Staff management and supervision- (35%)

The program manager will serve as a hiring manager, responsible for personnel operations, including developing position descriptions, job duties, success criteria, and performance evaluations. They ensure compliance with organizational hiring regulations and policies, approve OurDay HR forms, and prepares documentation for reclassifications and staff reviews. They lead and manage program staff in a direction aligned with the execution of our mission and strategy while evaluating and enhancing team effectiveness. The program manager ensures effective utilization and control of manpower, supplies, and equipment assigned or available for required duty performance. They are expected to organize and lead regular team meetings with direct reports to provide support and oversight of program implementation. Additionally, they will provide day-to-day supervision and comprehensive guidance to staff to ensure compliance and standardized implementation of Initiatives. The program manager will work closely with the MUSC BCCW Director, program coordinators, and the Departmental Human Resource staff.

The program manager is also responsible for providing training for team members, including, but not limited to, the development of standard operating procedures and strategic planning based on research focus/activities. The manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining training programs that support new and established employees and serves as the primary writer and editor of procedure manuals and workflow documentation used during the Initiative implementation.

Strategic planning and program implementation - (25%)

The program manager directs and manages the design and implementation of MUSC BCCW’s school-based initiatives. They recommend the development of new programs and/or the revision of existing programs. The program manager is also responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring program implementation. They work alongside the MUSC BCCW Director to establish timelines, processes for implementation, and resolve barriers to implementation. This position performs a variety of duties related to project planning processes, including community outreach and mobilization, coordination, planning, implementation, assessment, and evaluation. The program manager is also responsible for making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to proceed with the project, including anticipating emerging programmatic needs or future challenges the project may face.

The program manager also supports the development and execution of both short- and long-term goals. They assist with the planning and writing of grant proposals. They work closely with the MUSC BCCW Director, the admin/marketing coordinator, and collaborative partners- both external and internal- to seek and secure funding for current and expansion projects. They assist with coordinating presentations for key stakeholders and potential funders. The program manager serves as a community liaison for internal (MUSC) and external project development at national, regional, and state levels.

Reporting and outcome evaluation – (20%)

The program manager will support program evaluation by writing and editing reports, abstracts, and manuscripts to ensure that overall program objectives are met. They will report on the status of programs, including key performance indicators, timing, and staffing. They will represent MUSC BCCW in professional societies and at professional conferences and meetings. They will work with the BCCW Director to facilitate program evaluation surveys and conduct continuous quality improvement analysis for the expansion of MUSC BCCW’s programs.

Communication and Relationship Building – (15%)

The program manager will act as a point of contact for multiple partners, including but not limited to funders, school district staff, school staff, and community partners. The program manager will cultivate relationships with partners through frequent engagement, including in-person site visits, meetings, phone calls, and emails. The manager will oversee partner engagement and capacity-building strategies, ensuring alignment with overall project goals. This position will address partner concerns and facilitate partner coordination by providing expert and content-specific technical assistance. Additionally, this position will provide critical support to the MUSC BCCW to ensure the project achieves both long-term and short-term goals.

The Advanced Fetal Care Center ensures that families expecting babies with complex congenital birth defects or medical problems receive care from board-certified maternal-fetal medicine providers collaborating with a large multidisciplinary care team of pediatric specialists. The PTWP care is one of only a handful of women’s facilities in the country to offer couplet-care rooms, where newborns and mothers can recover together in an intensive-care setting.
