$68,397.00 - $97,472.00 - $126,547.00 (min - mid - max)

Job Duties:

  • 20 % - Manage medical students, research volunteers, statisticians, residents/interns, principal investigators and other study team members: It is the program manager’s responsibility to manage all research personnel. This research team has 40-50 team members at any given time. Managing these team members includes providing projects to those research members in need of work, facilitate the ability for research team members to complete their work, and provide necessary resources to team members so that they can complete their work. The program manager is also responsible for determining research team members’ strengths and weaknesses, to optimize research personnel in such a way that will facilitate the research team in completion of the project within the projects’ goals and dissemination plans. It is also the program managers responsibility to field all FLEX project requests from MUSC medical students. The program manager should design a project that will meet all the students’ FLEX project requirements. The program manager should stay up to date with these projects and provide honest feedback to the university based on the student’s ability and effort when completing the project for coursework credit. The program manager also should provide study members the opportunity to practice all presentations in front of relevant faculty members. Any project that was produced by this research team, that has been accepted for presentation, should be presented in front of relevant faculty members so that presenters can receive feedback prior to their actual presentation. It is the program managers duty to stay up to date with upcoming presentations and schedule practice presentations for each project.

  • 20 % - Stay up to date all current projects and databases and facilitate completion of those projects and databases: It is the program manager’s responsibility to stay up to date with all current projects including, quality improvement projects, clinical outcomes projects, and machine learning/artificial intelligence projects. Staying up to date includes knowing what stage of research each project is in, which research team members are working on each project, and what the goals and dissemination plan for each project is. The program manager will be responsible for about 100 current projects at a time, so it is essential for the program manager to be organized. The program manager is responsible for holding weekly meetings with the research team to report on progress of the current projects. This may also require weekly/biweekly meetings that are specific to one project to maintain a reasonable timeline for the project’s completion. All data collection projects require at least a biweekly check in meeting to prevent procrastination and to ensure that the data collection will be completed in time to meet the projects’ goals and dissemination plans. It is also the program manager’s responsibility to hold follow up meetings with each current project’s PI to ensure transparency and that all the agreed upon goals and dissemination plans will be met. The program manager will also oversee keeping all databases up to date. This includes staying on top of national data registries, internal data collection processes and data cleaning processes, and other data requests, including data requests from MUSC and other external organizations that supply data for research purposes. This also includes auditing the data collected by medical students to ensure accuracy. It is also the program manager’s responsibility to submit any amendments to IRB applications necessary to stay compliant with all the IRB’s rules and regulations. It is also imperative that the program manager complete understands and stays up to date with each of the IRB’s rules and regulations so that all projects can be performed effectively and efficiently within these guidelines. The program manager is also responsible for seeing each project to completion. Completion in most cases is a published manuscript. The program manager should provide resources to all manuscript writers and follow up with those writers consistently, so that all agreed upon goals and dissemination plans are met for each project.

  • 15 % Organize new projects: The program manager will meet with Principal Investigators (PI) to discuss new projects. Projects can be either quality improvement, clinical outcomes, or machine learning/artificial intelligence projects. The program manager will suggest the best way to complete the project, given the project goals and dissemination plan. Once the project’s design is agreed upon, the program manager will complete all compliance measures for the new project, including completing all IRB applications. The program manager will organize a team necessary to complete the project including, medical students, volunteer researchers, statisticians or AI scientists, and residents or interns. Once the team is assembled, the program manager will design a data collection process that is dependent on the projects’ goals. Once data collection is completed, the program manager will meet with the analytics team and instruct them on how to proceed with the project’s analysis. Finally, once the analysis is complete, the program manager will facilitate writing and publishing of the project, so that the project will meet all goals and disseminations plans agreed upon between the study’s PI and program manager.

  • 15 % - Manage the Surgical Innovation Center’s Annual Award: It is the program manager’s responsibility to collect all applications for the annual Surgical Innovation Center Award. The program manager will also be responsible to deidentify and then distribute all applications to the committee members to ensure a fair selection process. Once the awardees have been decided and announced, the program manager will be asked to facilitate these projects to completion, and make sure all awarded projects are completed in a timely manner so that all agreed upon goals and dissemination plans are met. 

  • 10 % Stay up to date with MUSC research processes/procedures: The program manager is responsible for staying up to date with all new and ongoing MUSC research processes and procedures. This includes making connections with IRB and BMIC members, to ensure that all compliances measures are being met, as well as, to ensure that projects can be started and completed in a timely manner.  

  • 10 % - Complete and submit data request applications to internal and external providers and facilitate grant application submissions: It is the program manager’s responsibility to submit all data request applications. The program manager should submit internal applications to BMIC and consistently follow up with email and meetings with the data brokers to ensure timely retrieval of the requested data. Similarly, the program manager is responsible to submit data request applications to external providers, like OPTN, and follow up consistently with them to ensure timely retrieval of the requested data. It is also the program manager’s responsibility to facilitate grant submissions. The program manager may be asked to get IRB approval and/or collect data for both the grant itself and preliminary projects necessary for grant application submission.

  • 5 % - Interview potential new hires and onboard new research team members: The program manager will be asked to interview new hires and provide feedback to the hiring managers, Dr. Arman Kilic. The program manager will report based on how the new hire will fit with the current research team, as well as the new hire’s ability to complete the requirements for the job for which he/she is interviewing for. It is the program manager’s job to onboard all new team members. This includes working with HR to get volunteers from other institutions a NetID and MUSC email, ensuring all new research volunteers complete the required CITI training and IRB registration, providing access to EPIC when necessary, and putting new volunteers on a current project that suits their strengths, weaknesses, and interests.

  • 5% Other duties as assigned.
